We offer a wide range of services depending on your needs. Yes! We can connect you with paid internships and short-term work experiences where WDI pays your wages while you gain skills. We’ll also help with resume writing, interview prep, job searching, and introductions to local employers. These experiences not only put money in your pocket but also add real skills and confidence to your resume.
All services are completely free. WDI’s programs are funded through state and federal grants so that cost is never a barrier for you to access opportunities.
Not at all! Many young people come to us unsure of what’s next, and that’s perfectly normal. Part of our job is to help you explore your options through career assessments, job shadowing, and real-world experiences. You’ll get to “test drive” different careers, see what sparks your interest, and build a plan that feels right for you.
That’s exactly why WDI is here. We know life doesn’t always follow a straight path, and our Career Planners are experienced in supporting youth who’ve faced barriers such as struggling in school, needing childcare, transportation issues, or even past justice involvement. We’ll work with you to overcome those challenges and connect you to resources so you can keep moving forward.
Yes, in many cases! Depending on your goals and eligibility, we may be able to cover costs like short-term trainings, certifications, or even help with tuition at a college or technical school. We can also assist with related expenses such as books, tools, or exam fees, so financial barriers don’t hold you back.
Great question! Job boards and applications can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t have much experience yet. WDI not only connects you with job opportunities but also prepares you to succeed in them. We’ll help you build a strong resume, practice interviews, learn workplace skills, and even pay your wages in certain internships. It’s not just about finding a job, it’s about building a foundation for your career.
Very involved! WDI works closely with local employers, schools, and community organizations across Southeast Minnesota. Employers partner with us to provide internships, workplace tours, and mentoring opportunities. Community organizations help address barriers like housing, health, or transportation. This network means you’re supported not just by one person, but by an entire community invested in your success.
